1.   Chef de Riz will be selected from the first place winners in the eight categories in Adult and Teen Divisions  in the Rice and Creole Cookery Contest. Winner will be named the International Rice Festival Chef de Riz for the year. Chef de Riz may be called on to represent the Rice Festival during the year. Winner will be awarded $50.00 cash and an engraved plaque.

2.   Chef de Riz will be selected based on rice dish score and an interview with judges on his or her knowledge of the nutritional value of rice, cooking qualities of rice and types and varieties of rice.

3.   To be considered for the title of Chef de Riz, the contestant must be present at the Acadia Cooperative Extension Service Building at 10:45 a.m. to be interviewed.

• Contest will be held Friday, October 17, 2008 at the Acadia Cooperative Extension Service Building located at 157 Cherokee Drive, Crowley, Louisiana

• Dishes must be entered from 8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Only chilled entries will be accepted for judging. Judging will be held from 9:30a.m. until 12:00 noon. If needed, samples of each dish will be heated prior to judging.

• At least one (1) cup of cooked rice must be included in dish and listed in recipe. Wild rice is not a cultivated rice in Louisiana and does not meet the recipe requirement of 1 cup of rice. Dishes containing rice products such as rice cereals, rice flour, etc. must also contain cooked rice. The exhibit must include the number of servings indicated on the recipe. For example, if the recipe states that it serves six, then the entire six servings must be displayed.

• Contestants are limited to one entry in each category in their division. Recipes become sole property of the International Rice Festival, to be published at the discretion of the International Rice Festival.

• Ribbons will be given for the top ten places in each category. Tri-Color ribbons and a $20 cash award will be awarded the Best Overall dishes in the Adult, Teen, Intermediate and Children’s Divisions.

• Division winners (First Place and Tri-Color) will be announced at 11:30 a.m.

• Judging for Chef de Riz will begin at 10:45 a.m. This will include interview and dish score. Chef de Riz winner will be announced as close to 12:00 noon as possible.

• Chef de Riz and Tri-Color winners should be present to receive awards on the Main Platform in front of the Acadia Parish Court House at 1:15 p.m. on the day of the contest.

• Covers and dishes must be labeled with exhibitor number to be obtained at registration. The International Rice Festival Association is not liable for dishes lost at the contest. Dishes – Pick up as soon as judging is complete and awards have been announced.
